Why were you baptized?

inspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.

i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.

i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.

There an enormously amount of pressure to get baptized even for pre-teens by parents and peers alike.

Armageddon is coming soon so you better get baptized or you'll be doomed. It also labels you as a good person,

one that has matured and faithfully devoted to their terrible god Jehovah. One that gets baptized gets a gold star

on their chest and is proudly aware of it. I never did myself , but I remember by best friend at the time who did

at a summer assembly, afterward we celebrated by smoking a cigar at the back of the stadium. We were both 15.

growing up in the troof, my mom used to tell me that no one else in the universe had the name jehovah.

i remember her even recounting an experience where a catholic couple wanted to name/baptize their son jehovah and the priest counselled against it.

now i see all sorts of people with the name jehovah, on facebook, in the news and even in other languagues (the portuguese version jeova).

Answer : when Christendom most likely wanted to separate totally away from the faith of the Jews and focus more of their faith on Christ.

She Would Have Been Better Off A JW

well i have been wanting to tell this story for some time now.

does anyone believe that a person is better becoming a jw?

i ask this question because i have carried this around with me for some years now.

Sounds like you and your deceased wife just needed to associate with better people , there are real wholesome

health conscience living people out there who aren't controlled by a dogmatic religious force.

The problem is if thats the way you were acting those kind of people wouldn't want to associate with you either.

Sad story to be sure but have you ever thought that possibly she just could have grown up and stooped

or slowed down on this destructive lifestyle without any religious intervention.

Sure there are a thousand different religions out there that would have put a stop to her unwholesome social behavior.

A lot of young people go through an age of irresponsibility and rebelliousness only to change their behavior as they see

for themselves what their behavior is doing to them and others, no religious intervention was required.

By the way I know of a lot of JWS who were heavy drinkers and some did die or were seriously wounded in car accidents.

The GB or Presidents of the WTS. have always insisted that woman must take a lower status of servitude toward men in regards to

womans place in society. Very much carbon copying how women were regarded and treated back in ancient times.

God himself is deemed to be a man so and it continues on from there.

As far as this person who wrote this article goes woman should only be at home waiting on their husbands hand and foot

to serve their higher ranking men and no where else. Funny how the WTS writers always use its Satanic when ever they didn't

like something or they wanted to press the controlling button over people.

The stupid babbling thats there in this shows what kind of idiocy that came and still comes out of the WTS.

hello all, i have been lurking, looking, reading, and digesting for around 2 years and it seems the time is right to post.

i recently had one of those moments at the kindom hall where i found myself looking around thinking "am i the only one who gets it, why doesn't anyone else have this puzzled look on their face?".

said during is second talk to the congregation "all of our food, our magazines, and all our wonderful books, and videos come from/through these 9 men".

Editors and Publishing Executives for the Watchtower Society, a literature publishing company.

But they really are the only Organization directed by god's holy spirit on earth ........trust me.

just wanted to say hello to all here.

i really don't have much of a story to tell about myself.

just find myself at a crossroads of sorts and wondering if i should stay or move on, although the greater part is telling me to move on.. long story short, i have been a baptised jw for 14 years.

Welcome to the forum Girlie, yes there is a lot of information obtainable about the the JWS on this site and others.

It is possible to make an honest and truthful evaluation without any closed mindset on how this organization got started

from its very beginnings up until today, so study carefully and take note that some information that you come across

may have been put forth by people who might embellish comments out of vindictiveness , rather than really hitting at the truth.

Nevertheless the facts are here and elsewhere on the Net for anyone to read and understand whats really going on at the elusive Watchtower.

a major one is that for the sake of saving a life, a jew is allowed to break just about any commandment.

for example, if a jew is injured on the sabbath, he is certainly allowed to go to the hospital even though he normally doesn't drive on saturday.

The JWS have misinterpreted many of the Mosaic laws, particularly since the giving of ones blood to save

a life of anther of the flock should be allowed since it may be a matter of life or death.

This just one of many screw ups the JWS have come out with over the years.

Power in the hands of the incompetent is not a good thing.
